Happy Thought #17 – The Unexpected

I have a friend, my dearest friends, who surprises me with the unexpected.

She brings gifts for no reason … a sign of love that is totally unconditional.  Yesterday she arrived with this little parcel – and no, it was not Valentine, that day had already passed.  This was for no special reason, on a very regular day, a day that now she had made very special!

There are no expectations and no demands when I am treated in this loving way and I sense that the simple act of giving brings her tremendous pleasure and it also gives me a deep sense of being honoured – just for who I am.

I hope that I reflect the same sentiments back to her.  Give an unexpected gift, surprise someone in your life.  It need not be grandiose, something as simple as a card or a bag of popcorn, something that says “I was thinking of you”.  Now that is a very happy thought.

I send cards to my friends for no reason, and have been doing it since I was a young adult. Not sure how it started, but it’s something that gives me great pleasure and it makes them smile! Friends ~ true friends ~ are a gift and I feel honoured to have mine.

Happiness is contagious. Giving the gift of a smile, a kind word or anything that uplifts someone, is truly a gift that keeps on giving, as it makes both the giver and receiver happy. The happier I am the more I want others to share that feeling with me.

Having good friends to share our journey with makes all the difference and I am so grateful for mine.

and … to receive with grace and appreciation is a gift to the giver!
